After busy summer holidays, it’s back to work and back to school. I have been contemplating some of the comments in my August editorial, in particular about being part of ‘The Sandwich Generation’ and making plans for the next 12 months.
I need to make a plan to ensure my mother is well cared for and she can continue to live as independently as possible in the home that she loves.
So, some basic questions:
- Is their house still practical? Does it need alterations?
- Is there accommodation for a live-in carer?
- How much will a carer cost? What funds are available?
- Would it be better to downsize?
- Do we need advice?
Time to stop juggling all the balls at the same time
There is a very informative download called ‘Time To Talk‘. Having just re-read it, I would strongly recommend a browse. It was not written by me but by professional health and financial advisors. There are some very useful checklists about planning for the future and the possibility of needing help in later life.
