Benefits of being a self-employed carer

There’s never been a better time to be a self-employed carer

Working as a self-employed carer with Bunbury Care Agency gives you the best of both worlds. You get all the benefits of being a private carer, but we will match you with suitable clients for the hours that suit you, and are there to support you at every step.

Our agency model means that you receive a higher than average rate of pay: one that truly reflects your value.

Our current carer rates of pay

Daily Care:

£16 per hour weekdays;£18 per hour weekends
Live-in Care:£780 to £980 per week
Overnight Care:£120-£160 per 12 hours
Weekend Care:£120 per 24 hours

You will also receive 45p per mile travel allowance.

Please note, this is exactly what you receive in payment: we do not take a commission from our carers.

You have the ability to choose when you work so that you can maintain a healthy work/life balance. So, whether you choose to work one week on, one week off, only during school hours, evenings only, or only want to take 4-5 weeks off per year, we can find you suitable placements.

Example self-employed carer earnings

If you are self-employed you will have various business running costs (allowable expenses). Your allowable expenses are deducted from your receipts to work out your taxable income (profit). You only pay tax on your taxable profit after deducting your personal tax allowance.

Examples:

Week on, week off @ £700 per week

Receipts per month   £1,517
Income for the year £18,200
Less personal tax allowance £12,570
Net income before expenses £5,630
Allowable expenses   £5,000
Annual Tax = £126 /NIC = £428
Daily Carers

20 hours per week @ £300 per week

Receipts per month £1,300
Income for the year £15,600
Less personal tax allowance £12,570
Net income before expenses    £3,030
Allowable expenses £4,000
Annual Tax = £nil /NIC = £340

Allowable expenses do not include money taken from your business to pay for private purchases or money taken out of the business as drawings.

Other benefits of being a self-employed carer

Working for Bunbury Care Agency

Freedom of choice

You are not obliged to accept just any booking but we are very experienced in matching your personality and skills to our clients. You are always free to work elsewhere, but we hope that you will enjoy looking after our clients and will give us a reasonable amount of availability as our clients need their regular carers on a regular basis.

Flexibility

You have the choice of when and where you work, enabling you to build your hours around your family, commitments and general lifestyle. We manage your rota on your behalf and around your availability. All we ask is that you give us plenty of notice if you are unable to work so we can find a suitable replacement carer.

Teamwork

As we are a family business it is important we work as a team. We like to look after our carers as much as we do our clients. We consider you as part of this family and are always available to talk to you to should you have a problem or some concerns.

Valued

Our carers have always been the backbone of our business and provide an invaluable service to us and our clients for which we have a unique reputation in the market place. You will find that your wages reflect the quality of your service.

What our carers say

“It took me a while to have the confidence to give up my permanent job with the local authority, but I am glad I did. I now work fewer hours to suit my lifestyle and still earn a good living. The main benefit however is being able to do my job in a less stressful way knowing that I really am making a difference to someone else’s life. I would highly recommend anyone who passionately believes that elderly people should remain living in their own homes, to register with Bunbury. They treat their carers as they treat their clients with kindness, understanding and compassion.”
