What is the Sandwich Generation?

What is the Sandwich Generation?
October 14, 2013 Sarah Green

Well it’s the Baby Boomers of the ‘Swinging 60s’, the ‘Good Times’ of the 70s and of course the 80s the ‘Decade that many people became rich!

It’s those of us whose parents are living longer than ever before and whose children are taking increasingly longer to fly the nest!

You may be thinking “Why is this relevant to me?” Well it may be relevant to the older people in your family and it will be relevant to your children at some point in time. Most of us are now feeling emotionally responsible and sometimes even financially responsible for both our adult children and our longer-living parents. There may even be grandchildren in the equation.

If you are like me, in the middle of a very extended family i.e. it is possible that within the next 17 years, 5 generations of my family could be alive at the same time. Because of our generation split, I have been in the ‘Sandwich Generation’ for many years. I sometimes think I am like Gulliver with loads of strings attached to me which are being pulled in every direction. So I have decided to start campaigning for ‘My Sandwich Generation’.

Campaigning to help people remain living in their own homes

We are a home care agency based in Bunbury, Cheshire helping families predominantly across the North West and North Wales, although we are nation-wide.

Bunbury Care Agency is a member of the UKHCA (United Kingdom Home Care Association) and an associate member of SOLLA (Society of Later Life Advisers). SOLLA is the only association in the UK that can provide accredited financial consultants who can advise and assist people with the funding of elderly care.
