Nannies
- a qualified Nanny must have specific qualifications in childcare such as an NNEB, CACHE or GNVQ’S
- many will have other qualifications as well as considerable experience
- a Nanny’s main responsibility is to look after the children in every aspect, from organising their leisure time to preparing meals and looking after their clothes
- a Nanny is often required to have sole charge if parents are at work
- a full time Nanny will work a 5 day week, although live-in Nannies often work longer hours
- daily Nannies should not be expected to work longer than 10 hours per day
mothers help
- a Mother’s Help does not necessarily have specific childcare qualifications but may have considerable experience in looking after children
- they usually work alongside the Mother and assist more in general household duties
- a Mother's Help is not always qualified to have sole charge of a child
- a full time Mother's Help should not be expected to work more than 45 hours per week
maternity nurses
- maternity nurses usually have specific training or childcare, nursing and midwifery qualifications along with considerable experience in the care of newborn babies
- their role is to attend to the baby during the first few weeks after birth whilst providing invaluable advice for the parents and also allowing the Mother to recover from the birth
- a daily or nights only maternity nurse may not always want to live in or out but will only work 6 days or nights per week
- a live in Maternity Nurse will also require a day off per week
- maternity Nurses are usually self employed and will make their own arrangements for Tax and National Insurance
